Which terms stumped you? Why? (Some of them we won’t use in the class; many of them we will. If there is one causing you significant stress, let me know so I can tackle it.) By the way, your summer reading test will be a series of examples asking you to identify via multiple guess the term utilized - you will see similar test questions on the AP exam.
dirimens copilatio was stumping. it confused me because its denotation and connotation are so different. i'm confused how "But wait, there's more" can mean "playing checkers" its strangely confusing
ReplyDeleteNot really a term but the way Henrichs speaks about pass tense supposed to be used in certain areas confused me because to me it made sense at the time but now the more down the road it is the more i'm forgetting and now to me it seems as if it doesn't matter in an argument as long as your case is strong.
ReplyDeleteRed herring tore me apart on the test. I understand it is the fallacy of distraction, but I need to see it used in context more often to truly understand how to integrate it into my works down the road
ReplyDeleteTwo posts on this one. I understand straw man fallacy reasonably well, but I feel like i would be picked apart in a debate if I attacked a weaker part of my opponent's argument. I feel as if I would have the upper hand for a brief moment in a debate, but on a rebuttal if my opponent recognized my tactic, which I think would be rather obvious, then I would rapidly lose momentum and never recover. I feel that if I deviated from the heart of the argument I would have a harder time ultimately winning. I hope to work on this in class.
